What should you do if your child is being electrocuted at an electrical switch? |
DO NOT try to grab the Child, you will only electrocute yourself. Use your shirt or blouse. Put it around the child’s arm and pull both ends. This will pull the arm away from the socket or switch. Call an ambulance immediately, even if the Child appears alright. |
What should you do if your Child talks about a sexual act? |
Children seldom make up these kind of stories. Listen carefully. Under-react. Talk calmly and ask direct questions. Find out: Who, when, where and how. (Do not interrogate or frighten the Child). |
What should you do if your Child takes poison? |
If the Child is vomiting, you can give them water or milk to dilute the poison. Call the Poison Control Center and follow directions. Take the container of poison, or the actual vomit to the Hospital. It is imperative that the Doctors at the Hospital know what the poison is to prepare the proper antidote. |
What should you do when you are sure your Child has been molested? |
Do not accuse or confront the perpetrator. Contact your local Police Department and explain the them calmly what you feel has happened. (They have trained personnel who will tell you how to proceed). |
What should you do if a Child comes to you and tells you someone is touching their private parts? |
Listen carefully to the Child. Ask direct questions before running it over to the Police Department. This Child has singled you out as a trusted friend. If the perpetrator is not a Parent, you may want to discuss it with the Parents. If the perpetrator is a Parent, you should turn it over to your local Police Department and let someone more qualified to handle the problem. |
