If a Child is having Trouble telling you something, what is a good approach to take? |
Tell them that you love them. Nothing you can say will change that. Talk softly and calmly and ask direct questions. Sometimes it is easier to answer a question, than to relay an uncomfortable story. |
If you have reported that your Child has been molested, and it has been confirmed by the Police Department, what is your next step? |
Seek counseling for you and your Child. Your Police Department can recommend agencies that can deal with the problem. (Do not try to solve it yourself). |
|
Should you send a stranger to pick up your child? |
Absolutely not. Under NO circumstances should you allow an unknown person to pick up your child. |
What did your Child wear yesterday? |
If you don’t know, no tokens for you. Try to make a habit of noticing what your Child is wearing. It may be critical in case of abduction. |
|
If you do not have an alternative exit, and a burglar is trying to break in, what should you do? |
Go to a safe room and call the Police. Tell them, “burglary in progress”, stay on the line and answer all questions. |
If you are the first to see a fire in your house, what should you yell? |
Yell, “FIRE-FIRE-FIRE.” It is important that the person coming to the rescuer knows it’s a fire. |
|
Is it advantageous to know your neighbors? |
Yes. Concerned neighbors prevent crimes. It is a good idea to have a neighbor keep an eye on your home, and you should do the same for them. |
What should you do when your Child is trying to talk to you? |
Listen. Be an “askable” Parent. |
|
What should you teach your Children about answering the phone? |
Be short. Do not volunteer any information. Hang up if they don’t know the person. If parents are home, turn the phone over to them. |
What should you do if your Child comes to you and tells you that friend is being touched by his Mom or Dad or other close relative on their private parts, in a way they do not like?
|
It would be beneficial to talk with the Child to determine the problem. It may be nothing more than scrubbing their bottom or administrating a medicine for a private problem. It could also be molestation. Once you have determined that it is molesting, you should report to the Juvenile Aid Department of your Local Police Department, and let the professional handle it. Do not confront the Parents. |
|
Your Child is separated from you in a Store or Mall. What do you do? |
NEVER leave your Children unattended! However, if your Child does become lost, do not waste time. “My child is missing”, should get help from fellow shoppers. Contact the Store Personnel and have them contact Store Security immediately. Time is the enemy! If a Child is not found in minutes, contact local Police. It is wise to carry up to date pictures of your Children. |
Does your phone or telephone area have the number of the Police, Fire or Poison Center listed? |
If not, no tokens for you. The Lifesaver Package has a stick-on for your phone. List the numbers on the sticker and use it. |
